CENTRAL AND SOUTH TEXAS ARE IN AN 'EXCEPTIONAL' DRAUGHT

We pride ourselves here in Central Texas for being environmentally responsible, technologically proficient, forward thinking and just plain smart.

We commend ourselves for being a GREEN community. We are passionate about exploring the exciting options of solar and wind power. We buy fuel efficient cars. We recycle, we ride bikes, we re-use our shopping bags. We ask our politicians to promote a ‘green’ agenda.

In the midst of our green explosion there is a BROWN menace. If you look past our beautiful neighborhoods and well maintained public areas you see brown. Lots and lots of brown.

Central Texas is experiencing the most serious drought in the nation. If you would like to see how we stack up against other parts of the country, check out the national drought monitor.

In spite of this extreme situation, on any given day you can read the paper or listen to local news and you will be lucky to hear anything that addresses the serious nature of this threat to our water resources.

It is time we take action as citizens and change our behavior. In addition to embracing the waterless way of washing cars, please become aware of the other things that you can do to protect our most precious, and most threatened, natural resource.

Think GREEN and BLUE to make it through!

California is one of the more aggressive states in promoting water conservation and requiring restricted water use. Please visit their site, H20use for detailed information on how to assess your current water use and implement water conservation tools.
